POLYWOOD Lakeside 48" Swing: a modern take on porch relaxation
The POLYWOOD® Lakeside 48" Swing brings clean, modern lines to a classic porch favorite. Broad back slats and a tilted seat make it a comfortable spot to unwind, chat or enjoy the view. Its all-weather lumber stands up to sun, snow, rain and coastal winds, and marine-grade hardware plus an adjustable chain kit keep it secure.
Built from 100% recycled plastic
The Lakeside 48" Swing is made from POLYWOOD® lumber, crafted from recycled HDPE plastics. It looks like painted wood but won't absorb moisture, so it won't rot, crack, splinter, chip or peel. UV-protected color stays rich season after season, and stainless steel hardware resists rust.
Made in the USA
POLYWOOD® makes the Lakeside 48" Swing in the USA at its facilities in Indiana and North Carolina, and backs it with a 20-year residential warranty.
Easy care
No sealing, staining or painting, ever. Clean with mild soap, warm water and a soft-bristle brush; a power washer can be used for tougher dirt.

Installation Guide & Requirements
Check these before you buy: the swing hangs from two points on your porch ceiling, so it needs strong overhead framing and room to swing.
Requirements
| Ceiling support | A load-bearing beam or ceiling joists, at least 2x6 (2x6 or 2x8), supported on both ends and strong enough to carry the swing plus the people on it. |
| Ceiling height | Up to 9 ft with the included chain kit. |
| Hanging height | The seat should sit 17–19" above the floor (about 18"). |
| Hardware spacing | Two ceiling mounts about 55" apart, centered over where the swing will hang. |
| Swing clearance | 3–4 ft in front and behind, and 12–14" on each side. Plan for a clear area about 6–6½ ft wide × 8–10 ft deep. |
| Swing weight | 72.25 lbs. Plan on at least two people to lift and position it. |
| Weight capacity | 300 lbs per seat. It is a 2-seat swing, so up to 600 lbs total. |
| Included hardware | Adjustable zinc-plated chain kit: four 5 ft chains, 6 quick links, and the eye bolts that attach the chains to the swing. Not included: the eye bolts or hooks for your ceiling. POLYWOOD leaves these out because every porch is built differently, so choose hardware that suits your framing. |
| Tools needed | 4mm T-handle hex key (included) and a 1/2" wrench (not included) to assemble the swing. To hang it: an adjustable wrench, tape measure and ladder, plus whatever tools your ceiling hardware calls for. |
How to install
- Assemble the swing. Put the swing together following POLYWOOD's instructions. Don't fully tighten the bolts in steps 1–4; tighten them all once the frame is together.
- Mark the mounts. Find a load-bearing beam or joists and mark two points about 55" apart, centered over where the swing will hang, with 3–4 ft clear in front and behind and 12–14" on each side.
- Install the ceiling hardware. Fasten your eye bolts or hooks (not included) securely into the framing.
- Attach the chains. Thread a chain through each armrest and fasten it with a quick link to the eye bolts at the front and back of the arm. Then join the upper chain to the center links so each side forms an upside-down "Y".
- Prop it up and hang it. With a helper, set the swing under the mounts at its final height. Upside-down 5-gallon buckets or cinder blocks work well. Connect the upper chains to the ceiling hardware with the quick links.
- Adjust and check. Adjust the upper chains so the seat sits about 18" off the floor, and the front and back chains for a comfortable recline. Make sure every quick link is fully closed, then test it gently before sitting down.
Tips
- Measure your porch before ordering: confirm the 6–6½ ft × 8–10 ft swing area is clear of railings, posts, doors and walkways.
- Bring a second person. At 72.25 lbs, the swing is too heavy to lift and hold level alone.
- Don't set the mounts too close together. At 48" apart, for example, the chains could rub against the swing.
- Ceiling taller than 9 ft? The included chain kit fits ceilings up to 9 ft, so you'll need extra chain.
- Use the included chains only. POLYWOOD has not tested this swing with rope.
- White glove delivery providers do not install hanging systems on swings, so plan to hang it yourself or hire a handyman.
- Before each use, check that the ceiling hardware is tight, the quick links are closed and the chains are secure.
